.
Was seen at St Joseph's Hospital.
Very good care
The Gastroenterology and Ambulatory department are either completely overwhelmed or incompetent. Trying to make contact and arrange appointments is almost impossible. Takes weeks to get an email reply and they don't respond to voicemails. The broader Gastroenterology team are worse. It's been 8 months since my capsule endoscopy and no one has bothered to feedback the results. Communication is non existent, and it is exhausting having to chase medical professionals to get things done when you already feel unwell. We are people, not just a hospital number, so treat us with some dignity and care.
The Medical Assessment Unit is not fit for purpose, you have patients being treated in the waiting room, it's overcrowded increasing the risk of infection. Communication is basic with little time for reassurance when patients are at their most vulnerable. There were times when staff were very short with patients and didn't have enough time to explain things. On discharge no information was given just a script and the words you can go now. It is the most uncomfortable environment due to crowding, heating and staff pressures.
I have been treated on D3East under the care of Mr Delacarta, where I have spent 10 days. I’ve had life changing surgery where a Colonoscopy (Stoma) performed. This was my 21 operation so feel I can talk on this matter. The Staff from the lovely ladies that kept the place immaculate to the surgeons but particularly the nursing staff where so dedicated and one was treated with dignity and respect. Just saying thank you seems so inappropriate, but I truly mean it from the bottom of my heart.
